MAIN AGG TURII PARDES - FROM LUNA

Shiv Kumar Batalvi, (1937 - 1973), wrote "LUNA", his legendary book, in 1965 when he was only 28 years old. For this book he was awarded the Nation's Biggest Litrary award "Sahitya Academy Award" in 1967 i.e. in the age of 30 years.

Shiv wrote this book in poetry mixed prose format.

As per the traditional story of Luna, as it goes, Luna’s role was that of a vamp. As the traditional story goes, Luna was married to Raja Salwan who was virtually of her father’s age. Raja Salwan had a young son named Pooran Bhagat who could have been a perfect match for Luna. Luna fell in love for Pooran but Pooran treated her as his mother and did not respond to her advances. Aggrieved by this attitude of Pooran, she complained to Raja Salwan saying that Pooran does not treat her like a mother and behaves otherwise with her. Hearing this, Raja Salwan got annoyed and got Pooran killed.

But Shiv virtually contradicted the historical legend saying that Luna, in fact, was not the vamp of the story, it was Raja Salwan who was the villain of the story.

Shiv goes on to say that Luna surrendered to the wishes of her parents and got married with Raja Salwan but Raja Salwan, because of his own complexity owing to his old age, developed a feeling against his son Pooran and Luna and got his son killed suspecting Pooran and Luna to be involved with each other.

Here is a beautiful poem, sung beautifully by Bhpinder and Mitali, from the book "LUNA" depicting the agony of Luna :-

Human spirit evolves constantly, but the process is hindred always by the customs and traditions, which lag behind time. Those who rebel against the so called SAMAJ suffer in sacrifice, but pave the way for the future. Shiv felt and adopted LUNA' Pain, in a way identified himself with Luna, and sacrificed his own life to pave the way for others. SAME DE SAREH PANIAN CHON, JADON KOYEE KANWAL.
HASSDA EH, SAMAAJ KUJH KAR NAHIN SAKDE, VICHAREH BADAL JANDEH NE.
